HUSKIES ANNOUNCE 2014 RECRUITING CLASS2014-05-09

The University of Saskatchewan Huskie men’s soccer program is proud to announce its 2014 recruiting class.

With a mix of talent and experience, the six athletes will add to the core success of the returning players.

“All of the players bring abilities both on the field and in the classroom,” said Huskie head coach Bryce Chapman. “We will continue to build this program with the right foundation of character and quality.”

The Huskies finished sixth at the 2014 CIS Championship in Fredericton, N.B. in November and finished among the top three teams in the Canada West for the third time in four seasons.

Bryce Marinus – Victoria, BC – Victoria Highlanders FC
Position: Midfield

Player Comments:
“To be able to attend and play soccer for the University of Saskatchewan is an amazing opportunity for me, coming from a small community. I am excited to come into this program to begin my CIS soccer career with the Huskies and hope we can bring home a national title. The coaching staff and players seem to be a perfect fit for me and I can not wait to get on the pitch with this great team of soccer players and coaches to start training for the upcoming season”

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Bryce is a dynamic player, comfortable on the ball, great work rate, can play in a variety of spots on the field. We feel he will step in an make an impact this season”

Cole Ollis – Victoria, BC – Victoria Highlanders FC
Position – Center Back

Player Comments:
“I am very excited about joining the Huskies next season. The program has seen tremendous growth over the past few years and I look forward to being a part of even more growth in the years to come. I can’t wait to start training with the team in August and begin working towards the first National Championship in the program’s history”

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Cole has a very similar approach and goal as Bryce coming from the Highlanders Program, he can play football in a variety of different manners, great character someone that we feel will fit well in our Back Four Defensive Group”


Tyler Redl – Saskatoon, SK – Vancouver Whitecaps Saskatchewan Academy Center
Position: Midfield

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Tyler has been in our Academy Program for three or four years and over that time he has excelled at every level he has competed at, high school championships, club championships, leading goal scorer in all league play, had a trial with Whitecaps Residency and now we fully expect him to start carving out that same success here with the Huskies”

Gabriel Buatuis – Saskatoon, SK – Astra Soccer Academy
Position: Midfield

Player Comments:
“I am very excited to join the Huskie Soccer Program, it will be a great challenge and I am looking forward to contributing to this team”

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Gabby is a player that we feel will really excel with the creative players we already have in our line up. He loves to be on the ball and when he is the type of player that really puts the opposition on the back foot.”

Jakub Ragowski – Saskatoon, SK – Vancouver Whitecaps Saskatchewan Academy Center
Position: Midfield

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Jakub comes to has having been in the our academy program for four years, he is a player that will be solid pillar in our program for years to come, able to play in a variety of roles. He is an excellent student, which again provides the overall picture of our program.

Avery Michael – Saskatoon, SK – HUSA Soccer Academy
Position: Midfield

Bryce Chapman Comments:
“Avery, the brother of current athlete Gabriel Michael, is going to be a very exciting player for our program, has a Uruguay style about him, loves being on the ball, creates something out of nothing and again someone we can move around in a variety of attacking positions.
