HUSKIES LOOK TO RETURN TO CIS CHAMPIONSHIP2014-06-20
Reigning Canada West silver medalist, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie men’s soccer team will look to continue to be a perennial contender in the 2014 season.
The Huskies returned with a medal from the Canada West Final Four for the third time in four seasons in 2013 and made an appearance at the CIS Championship for the first time in history. Once again Saskatchewan will look to return to the conference and national championship after battling through a tough 12-match schedule.
In 2014-15, Canada West men’s soccer will be split into two divisions. Saskatchewan will play in the Prairie Division, not playing a team in B.C. until the conference final tournament. The top four teams in each division are granted life in the postseason. After a one match in-division quarter-final, the highest remaining seed in the Prairie Division will host the three other quarter-final winners in the Canada West Final Four. The top two advance to the CIS Championship.
Highlights of the schedule include:
- The season opens at home against the Calgary Dinos on September 6-7.
- Pack the Pitch on October 5 against the Alberta Golden Bears
- Bitter rival the Alberta Golden Bears visit Saskatoon on October 5-6.
- Canada West Men’s Soccer Playoffs begin October 25
- UPEI Panthers will host the CIS Men’s Soccer Championship November 6-9.
All home Huskie men’s soccer games will be played at 2:15 p.m. on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
