HUSKIES SWEEP THOMPSON RIVERS FOR TRIP TO FINAL FOUR2014-02-22

Stephon Lamar scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the University of Saskatchewan Huskies past the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 84-71 in Game 2 of a Canada West Quarter-final series Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
Lamar scored 14 of his game-high 35 points in the fourth to lead the Huskies to the win. Saskatchewan’s leading scorer on the season was an efficient 14-for-17 from the field, adding seven assists and four rebounds.
Thompson Rivers entered the final quarter with a 57-53 lead, its first at the end of a quarter all series, but Saskatchewan outscored the WolfPack 34-13 in the last 10 minutes to win the trip to the Canada West Final Four.
Lamar hit back-to-back threes to get the Huskies back in front early in the fourth before Ta’Quan Zimmerman hit a pair of free throws to put the WolfPack ahead by one. Dadrian Collins responded inside for the Huskies converting on a three-point play. Saskatchewan would not relinquish the lead hitting 9-of-11 free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.
Saskatchewan advances to the Canada West Final Four next weekend, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed - either Alberta or Victoria. It will be Saskatchewan’s third trip in four seasons to the Canada West final.
Collins recorded his first Canada West postseason double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Unruh made the most of his six minutes on the floor, scoring eight points.
Zimmerman scored a team-high 23 points for the WolfPack while collecting five rebounds. Reese Pribilsky grabbed six boards for Thompson Rivers. Josh Wolfram added 10 more points.
Saskatchewan shot 53 per cent in the win to Thompson Rivers’ 38 percent.
Lamar got the Huskies offense going early with nine points as the Huskies opened the game on an 11-2 run. Saskatchewan led 25-14 after the first quarter.
Collins scored eight straight Huskie points in the second to extend the lead to 33-19. Thompson Rivers would cut the lead down to single digits at 44-36 by halftime thanks to back-to-back three point shots by Zimmerman and Brett Parker.
The WolfPack grabbed their first lead of the series with a Zimmerman free throw midway through the third quarter. Thompson Rivers outscored the Huskies 21-9 in the third to take a 57-53 lead to the final quarter.
