HUSKIES REMAIN PERFECT WITH ROAD WIN2013-10-05
Calgary – The Saskatchewan Huskies downed the MRU Cougars 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Zapski and Parenteau were the difference as the Huskies shutout the Cougars.
Early on the game was a bit of a feeling out process. Neither team conceded a many chances but neither was very willing to take any. After twenty minutes neither team could put a number up on the board. Mount Royal thought they had the lead when Kelsey Kinzner snuck past the defender and unleashed a hard shot, only to see the flag go up and put her offside.
With just under a minute to play Saskatchewan’s Erica Parenteau won a battle deep in the Cougar zone and earned herself a corner kick. The ball was cleared off the line and right to the foot off Jenelle Zapski who hammered the ball into the bottom left right corner. The goal gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Huskies rode their momentum into the second half as they added another goal in the 63rd minute. Erica Parenteau picked up a sloppy clearing attempt from the Cougars and looped it over the keeper to give Saskatchewan a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies now move to 6-0-2 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 3-5-1 on the year.
Saskatchewan will travel north to Edmonton to play the Alberta Pandas Sunday, while the Cougars will host Regina tomorrow at 12pm at MR Field.
