GUEBERT NAMED SPECIAL TEAMS COACH2013-03-11
Huskie Athletics head football coach Brian Towriss is pleased to announce the hiring of former University of Saskatchewan defensive lineman Brian Guebert as the team’s special teams coordinator.
Guebert is currently the high performance director of Football Saskatchewan and has served as special teams coordinator on the Team Saskatchewan U18 coaching staff in 2010 and 2012 and will be the squad’s defensive coordinator this summer. Guebert was also a member of the coaching staff for the 2012 U20 Team Canada Junior National Team that won gold at the IFAF World Championship.
“We are very excited to have Brian join our coaching staff,” said Towriss who is entering his 3oth year as head coach. “Brian’s experience as a player in the CIS, CFL, and on the national team provides him with a tremendous understanding of special teams systems currently employed at our level. His experience as an outstanding player at the UofS will be a major benefit to our student-athletes.”
Guebert had a successful playing career as a member of the Huskies football team from 2004-06, participating in Vanier Cups in each of his three seasons. During his time with the Huskies, Guebert was named a Canada West All-Star in 2004 and 2006 and was also a CIS First Team All-Canadian in 2006. Before joining the Huskies, Guebert was a member of the Saskatoon Hilltops, winning three Canadian Bowl Championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He went on to play in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007 and 2008.
As a coach Guebert has been actively involved in the development of football players in Saskatoon serving as the commissioner of Saskatoon minor football. He has also been the defensive coordinator and a positional coach with the Aden Bowman Bears for the past four seasons.
