The Huskies will look for wins against provincial rival the University of Regina Cougars in a home-and-home series. The Huskies host the Cougars Thursday at the PAC, before travelling to Regina Saturday for the second match of the weekend series.
The No. 6 ranked Saskatchewan (12-6) enters the weekend having won nine of their last 10 matches. With just four matches remaining in the Canada West schedule, Saskatchewan needs to make every game count. The Huskies have a date next weekend with the No. 4 ranked Bisons, who enter this weekend tied with Saskatchewan in the standings.
Regina (2-16) enters the weekend after a sweep on the road by the Bisons. The Cougars haven’t won since November 30.
Fourth-year outside hitter Bryan Fraser continues to have a career season tallying 211 kills and 133 digs. Fellow outside hitter Paul Thomson, who led the Huskies against Brandon, is also having a strong offensive season with 183 kills, 88 digs and 17 blocks. Also joining in for the Huskies attack has been middle blocker Braden McLean with 109 kills and 62 blocks.
Andrew Nelson and Andre Borgeaud lead Regina on offence. Nelson leads the team with 185 kills and 23 blocks. Borgeaud adds another 112 kills, 102 digs and 27 blocks. Caleb Eschbach leads the Cougars with 136 digs.
Since 1996, the Huskies are 34-1 against Regina in Canada West action.
