HUSKIES HAVE STRONG SHOWING AT SLED DOG OPEN2013-01-26

The University of Saskatchewan track & field team tallied 41 medals in the two-day Huskie-hosted 44th Annual Sled Dog Open on the weekend at the Saskatoon Field House.

Leading the tally was Nolan Machiskinic, Steven Leung and Orland Iverson. The three swept the podium in both the weight throw and shot put events.
 
Winning multiple gold medals in the weekend met was Karla Gabruch with golds in shot put (12.80) and weight throw (16.24). Daniel Block also took home first in both the 1000-metres (2:33.11) and 1500-metre (4:03.90) races.

Finishing with gold medals for the Huskies was Morgan Sawatzky (300-m, 39.84); Amanda Banks (1000-m, 2:50.35); Ryan Kowalchuk (300-m, 37.39); Tyler Young (60-m hurdles, 8.62); Cossy Nachilobe (long jump, 6.27-m); Katrin Ritchie (60-m, 7.90); Tye Buettner (600-m, 1:38.70); Brittany Elliott (1500-m, 4:49.79); Davis Guenther (600m, 1:21.58); Ross Bodnar (high jump, 1.80) and Kyle Weiman (pole vault, 4.41m)
 
Winning silver for the Huskies was Julene Friesen (300-m, 41.99); Elecktra Charles (1000-m, 2:55.80); Lauren Taylor (hurdles, 9.43); Jared Olson (hurdles, 8.74); Courtney Erickson (pole vault, 3.60m); Danielle Kabatoff (long jump, 5.20m); Ryan Graf (60-m, 7.11); Taryn Heidecker (1500-m, 4:04.13);  Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren (high jump, 1.75m); Conor Lazarou (pole vault, 3.61) and Lauren Taylor & Danielle Kabatoff (high jump, 1.58).
 
Bronze medalists included Mignon le Roux (hurldes, 9.43); Donald Bridgeman (300-m, 37.50); Chris Schneider (long jump, 5.80m); Naomi Manske (long jump, 5.20m); Janelle Olchowy (weight throw, 13.68m); William Winston (300-m, 36.60); Ryan Cox (600m, 1:22.61) and Mackenzie Dawson (1000-m, 2:44.78).
 
The Huskies compete again February 1-2 at the Bison Classic in Winnipeg.
