HUSKIES LOOK FOR SUCCESS AGAINST COUGARS2013-01-24

The No. 5 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskie men's hockey team will look to return to form seen earlier in the season in a weekend home-and-home series against the University of Regina Cougars.

The Huskies and Cougars faceoff in Regina Friday and return to Saskatoon's Credit Union Centre Saturday.

With six games left in the regular season, Saskatchewan (15-7-0) have dropped four of their six games to start 2013. Although already clinching a spot in the playoffs, the Huskies will look to finish in one of the top two spots in the conference to earn a first-round bye. Regina (11-9-2), currently in sixth, has also secured a playoff spot.

Since 2006-07, the Huskies are 28-8 against the Cougars including a split in their first home-and-home series earlier this season.

Fourth-year Kyle Bortis continues to lead the Huskies and sit third in conference scoring tallying nine goals and 20 assists. Captain Brennan Bosch has also been strong offensively for the Huskies with a team-high 11 goals and 10 assists. Rookie Jimmy Bubnick has added another eight goals and 12 helpers.

Regina is led by Tyler Henry and Troy Hunter. Henry has 10 goals and six assists in 19 games in 2012-13, while Hunter has tallied six goals and nine assists in 17 games.

Ryan Holfeld has appeared in all 22 games for the Huskies this season recording a .905 save percentage and 2.87 goals against average. Lucas Gore and Andrew Hayes have each played 11 games in net for the Cougars.

Saturday's puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets can be found at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-800-970-7328 or 306-938-7800. The game will be webcast at www.canadawest.tv or can be heard live on CJWW. Huskie Athletics is inviting all minor hockey players to Saturday night's matchup at Credit Union Centre. All youth (18 and under) wearing their Saskatoon Minor Hockey game jersey will receive free admission.

Men’s Hockey Grow The Flow

Huskies Zak Stebner, Cody Smuk, Craig McCallum, Kyle Aschim and Matthew Delahey have paired with the Canadian Cancer Society and Andrew Bell, a young cancer survivor, to raise money and awareness for cancer in support services in Saskatchewan.

Motivated by Andrew’s courage, the five Huskies are growing their hair to donate at the end of the season at Relay For Life on March 23. Andrew will become part of the team and be with the Huskies every step of the way in the run to the 2013 CIS PotashCorp University Cup Presented by Co-op hosted in Saskatoon March 14-17.

Already smashing their goal of $5,000, the Huskies are looking for your help to make it to $12,000. Help us achieve the goal with special events. Fans can have their haircut courtesy of Fresca Bella on the concourse level, as well as purchase pucks to participate in Chuck-A-Puck in the second intermission. Don’t miss the display table on the concourse.
