HUSKIES WIN STREAK AT THREE2013-01-18
With a lopsided 91-64 victory over the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies extended their winning streak to three games.
Leading by five at 22-17 after the first quarter, the Huskies found their stride in the middle frames to pull away from the Heat. Saskatchewan outscored UBC Okanagan 23-13 in the second quarter for the 45-30 lead at halftime and continued to pour the ball in the basket in the third outscoring 26-20 in the frame. The Huskies also won the battle in the fourth 20-14.
With the win, the Huskies move to 9-4 on the season, while the Heat drop to 2-12.
UBC Okanagan’s 23 turnovers in the game proved fatal for the Heat. The Huskies tallied 29 points on the UBC Okanagan errors.
The Huskies finished the game shooting 49.3%, while UBC Okanagan shot at 50%. Saskatchewan won the battle on the boards outrebounding the Heat 42-25.
Four Huskies recorded double-digits in the game. Matthew Forbes led the group scoring 19 points, followed by Andrew Henry, who hit four three-pointers in the game, at 18. Canada West leading scorer Stephon Lamar added another 16 and Evan Ostertag chipped in 10. Fifth-year forward Patrick Burns nabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Landry Ndayitwayeko led the Heat on the night with 14 points, while Dave Mackay and Azi Fahandeg-Sadi each added 13 in the game. Fahandeg-Sadi and Anwar Faza led the Heat on the boards with four rebounds each.
The Huskies face the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Saturday night at the PAC, while the Heat travel to Edmonton to face the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
