HUSKIES COMPLETE FIRST SWEEP SINCE 20102013-01-12

For the first time in two seasons, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed a sweep in Canada West women’s volleyball after a 3-0 (25-21, 25-7, 25-14) win over the visiting Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan’s last sweep also came at the hands of Thompson Rivers on January 28-29, 2010 in Saskatoon.

With the pair of wins, the Huskies move to 3-11 on the season, while the WolfPack (0-14) are still in search of their first win of the season. A night earlier, the Huskies won 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-15).

Match Stats

Second year middle blocker Kayla Tycholiz led the offensive charge for the Huskies with 13 kills. Captain and outside hitter Candace Hueser also had a strong night with 12 kills for her team. Rookie Emily Humbert contributed with five aces and libero Haley Williams recorded seven digs.

Middle Katarina Osadchuk led the WolfPack tallying eight kills, while setter Katie Woo had 10 assists.

Despite Thompson Rivers jumping out to leads in the first two sets, Saskatchewan was able to maintain composure. The Huskies quickly took back control of the games and slid to the victories.

Thompson Rivers returns home to host the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend, while the Huskies hit the road to face the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.
