WOOSTER NETS GAME WINNER IN OT2013-01-12

University of Saskatchewan captain Cara Wooster tallied 27 seconds into overtime to give the Huskies a 1-0 victory over the visiting No. 7 ranked University of Alberta Pandas Saturday night at Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.

With 1:17 remaining on a power play after Panda Monika Moskalski was caught for slashing late in the third period, the Huskies took control of the Alberta zone to start the overtime frame. All Saskatchewan players on the ice created a tic-tac-toe play to give Wooster an open net for the win.

Full Stats

With the win the Huskies move to 7-9-4, while the Pandas drop to 13-6-1.

Despite the loss, Panda netminder Michala Jeffries turned in an exceptional effort stopping 30 of the 31 shots she faced in the game. Rookie Huskie goalie Cassidy Hendricks recorded her second career CIS shutout stopping 19 shots.

Alberta’s penalty killing was also strong in the game allowing Saskatchewan to score just once on 11 chances. The Pandas were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

The Huskies travel to Vancouver to meet the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend, while Alberta remains on the road to face the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
