HUSKIES DEFEAT COUGARS IN PRAIRIE DUAL2013-01-12

The University of Saskatchewan Huskie track & field team started the 2013 season on the right foot defeating the University of Regina Cougars 161 to 84 in the annual Prairie Dual Saturday at the Saskatoon Field House.

On the women’s side, the Huskies won all three medals in the 60-metre dash, 1000-metre, 4X200-metre relay, high jump and pole vault. The Cougars swept the podium in women’s long jump.

Huskie women’s gold medalists included: Michelle Young, 60-m, 7.79; Michelle Young, 60-m hurdles, 8.85; Katrin Ritchie, 300-m, 40.79; Sonia Rees, 600-m, 1:47.39; Amanda Banks, 1000-m, 2:54.53; Danielle Kabatoff, high jump, 1.60m; Karla Gabruch, weight throw, 16.36-m; Noelle Loran, pole vault, 3.45-m; Karla Gabruch, shot put, 12.90-m and the 4X200-m relay team.

Saskatchewan had podium sweeps in high jump, pole vault, shot put and the 1000-metre run on the men’s side.

Huskie men’s gold medalists were: Ryan Graf, 60-m, 6.97; Jared Olson, 60-m hurdles, 8.78; Kyle Donsberger, 300-m, 35.49; Emmett Harrison, 600-m, 1:25.59; Derek Sawatzky, high jump, 1.80m; Davis Guenther, 1000-m, 2:28.70; Lane Britnell, pole vault, 4.80m; Nolan Machiskinic, shot put, 13.69-m; Nolan Machiskinic, weight throw, 16.27-m and the 4X200-m relay team.

Canada West teams will travel to Edmonton January 18th for the annual Golden Bear Open.
