Two first period goals led the visiting University of Alberta Pandas to a 2-1 victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.
The No. 4 ranked Pandas tallied just 1:21 and 15:12 in the first frame for the victory.
With the win Alberta improves to 13-6-0, while the Huskies drop to 6-9-4. Saskatchewan sits on a three game losing streak to open the second half of the Canada West women’s hockey season.

Hannah Mousek opened the scoring quickly for the Pandas at 1:21 in the first period. Alternate captain Katie Stewart gave Alberta the 2-0 lead at 15:12 when her shot beat Cassidy Hendricks on the power play.
Saskatchewan got back in the game at 7:33 in the second period when Shelby Davey found the net on a scramble in front of the net.
Huskies’ rookie goaltender Hendricks made 19 saves in the loss, while Michala Jeffries stopped 25 for Alberta in the win.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
