HUSKIES WIN SIX MEDALS AT GOLDEN BEAR OPEN2013-01-05

The University of Saskatchewan Huskie wrestling team won six medals at the annual University of Alberta-hosted Golden Bear Open Saturday.

At the tournament, Saskatchewan won two gold medals and three bronze medals. As a team the men finished second among varsity squads, while the women finished fourth.

Three-time CIS champion Ryan Myrfield won a gold medal for the team in the 72-kilogram weight class. Malcolm Meekins won the other Huskies’ gold medal in the 65-kg weight class. Lisa Brise captured a silver in the 63-kg class. Dylan Bray (57-kg), Natasha Kramble (51-kg) and Hannah Franson (55-kg) all won bronze medals for the Huskies.
 
Other Huskies competing were: Raelene Anderson (4th, 82-kg); Melanie Haanen (5th, 72-kg) and Andrew Johnson (5th, 76-kg).
 
The Huskies travel to Regina for the Cougar Open January 12.
