KRAMBLE & HUSKIES WIN BIG IN WINNIPEG2013-02-02
The University of Saskatchewan Huskie wrestling team returned with 11 medals from the University of Winnipeg Open Saturday.
Among varsity teams, the Huskies finished second on the women’s side, while the men finished third. Veteran fifth-year and captain Natasha Kramble was named the tournament’s most outstanding female wrestler.
Kramble led the way in the 51-kg weight class earning one of four gold medals for the Huskies at the meet. Theo Dow (61-kg), as well as rookies Malcolm Meekins (65-kg) and Annie Monteith (48-kg) also finished first.
Landon Squires (100-kg), Dylan Bray (57-kg), Hannah Franson (55-kg) and Koren Pitkethly (59-kg) all brought home silver medals, while Shane Johnson (54-kg), Lisa Brise (59-kg) and Amy Dunn (72-kg) won bronze.
Other Huskies competing were Austin Wall (fourth, 68-kg), Blake Pritchard (sixth, 76-kg), Tony Ambros (sixth, 82-kg), Samson Swan (fifth, 130-kg), Laurel Hague (sixth, 51-kg), Ashley MacNeil (sixth, 55-kg), Silke Svenkeson (fourth, 55-kg), Ashley MacNeil (sixth, 55-kg), Drew Kuhn (sixth, 63-kg), Taylor Follensbee (fourth, 72-kg), Melanie Haanen (sixth, 72-kg) and Raelene Anderson (fifth, 82-kg).
The Huskies will compete next at the Canada West Championship hosted by the University of Alberta February 15-16.
