FORBES POWERS HUSKIES TO ANOTHER WIN2013-02-02

University of Saskatchewan’s Matthew Forbes powered 30 points en route to an 89-65 victory over the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.  

The second-year forward, who scored a career-high 40 points on Friday against Winnipeg, went 13-for-20 from the field and 3-for-five from the free-throw line in Saturday's win.  He also added 10 rebounds in the game.

With the win, Saskatchewan improves to 13-5 on the season, while Winnipeg drops to 11-8. The win helps the Huskies inch closer to a securing a top two spot and hosting duties in the first round of the playoffs.

Although Winnipeg jumped out the lead for the majority of the first quarter, Saskatchewan took control by the end of the first leading 20-16. Winnipeg pulled within eight at halftime at 44-36, but the Huskies sealed the win in the third quarter outscoring the Wesmen 28-15. Saskatchewan continued the roll in the fourth outscoring 17-14.

Jordan Clennon was the best on the night for the Wesmen tallying a team-high 17 points. Benny Iko added another 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Patrick Burns and Stephon Lamar were also strong for the Huskies in the win. Burns tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Lamar scored another 14 for the Huskies.

The Huskies finished the night shooting at 49%, while the Wesmen shot at 43%. Saskatchewan also beat the Wesmen on the boards outrebounding Winnipeg 49-31.

 The Huskies hit the road to face the Manitoba Bisons next weekend, while the Wesmen return home to host the Alberta Golden Bears.
