University of Saskatchewan cross country athletes Gabrielle Edwards and Davis Guenther had the top finishes for the Huskies at the annual Cougar Trot Saturday in Regina.
Edwards finished the five-kilometre race in a time of 18:27.50 to finish second, while Guenther finished the men’s eight-kilometre race in 25:42.84 to finish fourth.
Brittany Elliott had the next best time for the Huskies finishing 23 seconds
behind her teammate, crossing the finish line at 18:56.65 for sixth place.
Rookie Robert Bigsby was the next best on the men’s side with a ninth place
finish, clocking in at 26:56.18.
As a team Saskatchewan finished second on both the men’s and women’s side.
Rachael Edwards (19:28.56), Shannon McAvoy
(19:30.98) and Courtney Sjodin (19:32.46) also had strong finishes for the
Huskie women’s team, finishing ninth, 10th and 11th in
the race. Other Huskie finishes include: Elecktra Charles (20:04.28, 13th),
Mackenzie Chartier (20:15.74, 16th), Tenille Gering (20:41.53, 19th),
Chelsey Bilan (20:55.78, 21st),
Leah Beech (21:24.83, 24th), Sarah Champagne (21:36.45, 25th),
Amanda Regnier (21:40.17, 26th), Andrea Armstrong (22:28.61, 29th)
and Sonia Reese (22:28.61, 29th).
Other Huskies competing on the men’s side were: Taryn Heidecker (27:55.72, 12th),
Eric Mueller (28:15.28, 13th), Emmett Harrison (29:01.22, 19th),
Reid Belazantis (29:25:00, 21st), Graeme Harrison (30:26.25, 25th)
and Brandon Campbell (31:53.44, 27th).
The Huskies will race for the lone time at home this season on October 6 in the
UofS Open in Lakewood Park.
