FUENZALIDA NAMED CANADA WEST ALL-STAR2012-11-01

University of Saskatchewan Huskie women’s soccer midfielder Daniela Fuenzalida was honoured by the Canada West Thursday by being named an all-star.

Fuenzalida, a fourth-year Saskatoon native, was named Canada West First Team All-Stars. It is the 32nd time a Huskie has been named an all-star in women’s soccer history and the fourth straight selection for Fuenzalida since 2009.

Playing steady in the midfield for the Huskies in 2012-13, Fuenzalida finished third in team scoring with two goals and five assists. She had 30 shots, starting in all 12 matches for the Huskies this year.

In 2012-13, the Huskies made program history. Saskatchewan had a program-best season with an 8-4-0 record and earned a spot in the Canada West postseason for the first time in history. The eight wins bested the mark of seven set in the previous two years. The Huskies faced provincial foe the Regina Cougars in a Canada West quarter-final in Regina, losing 2-1 in penalty kicks.

The Huskies will continue to train throughout the offseason to prepare for 2013.
