HUSKIES LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK2011-01-19
With an eight game winning streak on the line, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie basketball teams will put themselves to the test against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack Friday and Saturday at the PAC.
The Huskies sit third in the Canada West with an 11-3 record. Since opening the season with three straight splits, the Huskies have swept every weekend series including both to open up the second-half of the season. Last weekend, the Huskies defeated the Manitoba Bisons 89-80 and 121-88. The 121 points scored last weekend set a Huskies record for most points scored in a Canada West conference game.
Saskatchewan has the top offence in the Canada West scoring 93.5 points per game. They also lead in offensive rebounds (15.9/game) and steals (10.4/game)
Two Huskies sit in the top five in scoring in the Canada West – fifth-year guard Rejean Chabot averages 23.2 points per game to sit second and third-year guard Jamelle Barrett contributes 22.4 per game to land fourth. Forwards Nolan Brudehl and Michael Lieffers also chip in with the scoring adding 11.6 points and 10.9 respectively each game. Lieffers and Brudehl also lead the team in rebounds with 10 and 8.6 per game respectively.
Thompson Rivers enters the weekend with a 3-13 record with wins coming over the University of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba and the University of Regina in a nail-biting 66-65 win.
Four Wolfpack members average double digits each game including Chas Kok with 16.3, Justin Riggins and Kevin Pribilsky with 15.6, as well as Greg Stewart with 13.8.
Stewart is also strong on the boards with 12.4 rebounds per game.
The Huskies post a perfect 6-0 record against the Wolfpack since Thompson Rivers joined the Canada West in 2006-06.
