The University of Saskatchewan Huskie wrestling squad returns home with three gold medals from the 2010 Western Open hosted by the University of Western Ontario in London.
In the tournament, 10 Huskie athletes competed with all of them finishing in sixth place or higher.
"I am pleased with the results and that all of the athletes had several matches in the tournament," said Huskie head coach Todd Hinds. "It was rewarding for our athletes to see the eastern opponents before the CIS Championship later this year."
Landon Squires (90-kg), women's team captain Jill Gallays (55-kg) and veteran Beth Thompson (82-kg) all won gold medals. Natasha Kramble (51-kg) and Huskie red shirt Donovan Dale (heavyweight) won bronze. Tim Kent, who withdrew from the heavyweight bronze medal match due to injury, finished fourth. Bryan Blackwell (54-kg) and Koren Pitkethly (59-kg) also finished fourth. Huskie red shirt Kathleen Kent (59-kg) finished fifth and Alex Kelly (68-kg) finished in sixth.
The Huskies will compete next in the Canada West Championship February 19-20.
