HUSKIES PLAY FOR A CURE UPDATE2009-11-17

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are proud to announce another $4,854.95 has been raised for the Canadian Cancer Society through the Huskies Play For A Cure initiative.

The funds bring the grand total donated to $23, 528.95.

Last season, Huskie athletes began the initiative Play For The Cure in hopes of raising money for cancer research. Together $18,674 was donated. The fundraising initiative continued into the 2009-10 season with the newly added goal of raising awareness through education about cancer.

The money was raised through donations to the football head shave, a barbecue hosted by the Huskies in early November and the auctioning of a men’s soccer jersey and men’s hockey helmet. The Huskies also co-hosted a one-man show by Daniel Schneiderman about testicular cancer this month.

“We continue to be proud of our athletes for coming to us to start this special initiative,” said athletic director Basil Hughton. “Cancer has affected those involved with Huskie Athletics in many ways and we are happy to have a small part in finding a cure. I congratulate all of our athletes for their hard work and dedication to the cause.”
