Bailey’s goals were the Huskies fourth, fifth and sixth in the game. His first
came at 5:44 and his second at 18:32 in the second period. His hat trick goal
came at 10:28 in the final frame. Bailey was one of four Huskie players with
multiple points in the game. Huskie captain Steven DaSilva, forwards Shaun Vey
and Steven Gillen and defenceman Zach Sim each had two points.
Vey opened the scoring in the game at 6:52 in the first period and defenceman
Brett Ward gave the Huskies a two goal lead at 16:29. The Huskies scored the
next two goals in the game to take a 4-0 lead – Sim at 2:16 into the second
period and Bailey’s first at 5:44.
Team Slovakia finally stopped the Huskie shutout in the second period with a
goal by Richard Panik at 7:41. Radoslav Illo added his team’s second goal just
36 seconds later.
Tomas Halasz started in net for Slovakia making 10 saves while allowing four
goals. Marek Ciliak replaced him with 34 minutes left in the game making 11
saves. Huskie goalies Jeff Harvey and David Reekie split time in the net each
playing 30 minutes in the game. Reekie, who played in the first half, made 14
saves, while Harvey stopped all 21 shots he faced.
Slovakia is in the Saskatoon pool with Canada, USA, Latvia and Switzerland.
They open the tournament with a big test on December 26 in a game against the
USA.
The Huskies will return to the ice in regular season action January 16-17 in a
home-and-home series against the University of Regina Cougars. The Huskies and Cougars will play in Saskatoon on January 17. Game time is 7 p.m. at Rutherford Rink.
