Huskie Athletics Board of Trustees

With a proud tradition and history dating back 105 years, Huskie Athletics has long been recognized as one of the most successful programs in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, playing an integral role in enhancing the reputation and culture of the university. Beginning in November 2016, Huskie Athletics will be advised and guided by a new Board of Trustees.

By moving to a university-wide level, Huskies Athletics will be further mandated to provide an elite student-athlete experience within a unique, ever-changing environment that fosters athletic and academic excellence. 

The first iteration of the board will include the following community members: Diane Jones Konihowski, Tom Anselmi, David Sutherland, Shelley Brown, David Dubé and a sixth member to be named at a later date. The U of S representatives are: Patti McDougall, vice-provost, teaching and learning, Greg Fowler, vice-president finance and resources, Debra Pozega Osburn, vice-president university relations, Chad London, incoming dean of the College of Kinesiology, and Peta Bonham-Smith, interim dean of the College of Arts and Science.

Tom Anselmi (BE '85)
Tom Anselmi is a recognized senior business leader in Canada and an accomplished sports and entertainment executive. His most recent position was as president and chief operating officer of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), an organization valued at more than $2 billion. As a community leader, Tom is a member of Canada's Walk of Fame and The Huntsville Hospital Foundation. He led the development of MLSE's Team Up Foundation, was previously a vice-chair of the Toronto Board of Trade and a board member of KidSport Canada, Molson Indy Foundation, Basketball Canada, Covenant House and a variety of other community initiatives. In 2011, Tom received the CDS commendation from Canada's chief of the defence staff, which is the highest military honour a civilian can receive. In 2012, he was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Shelley Brown (BComm '78)
Shelley Brown has more than 30 years of experience in accounting public practice. Formerly a partner in Deloitte's Saskatoon office and managing partner for the Saskatchewan practice, she transferred to Vancouver to focus on clients in the manufacturing, mining and forestry sectors. Named as one of Canada's 100 Most Powerful Women by KPMG Professionals Award, she has always been active in the community, serving on the board of Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan and as vice-chair of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. She is also past president of the Saskatoon United Way and was a member of the U of S Board of Governors.

David Dubé (BA '85 and Huskie Athletics football alumnus)
David Dubé is the first chair of the Huskie Athletics Board of Trustees. He is currently the majority owner, controlling shareholder, president and CEO of Concorde Group Corp, a diversified Saskatoon-based company. He is a recognized investor and venture capitalist, and an active board member of multiple companies, non-profits, Enterprise Saskatchewan and charitable organizations. David is the vice-chair of the U of S Board of Governors, and is also the vice-chair of the board's finance and investment committee, as well as a member of the board's governance and executive, and land and facilities committees.

Diane Jones Konihowski (Bed '75, LLD '02 and Huskie Athletics track and field alumna)
Diane Jones Konihowski has rich experience in the sporting world after more than 45 years as a world-class athlete, university and national team coach, official, volunteer, sport marketing specialist, professional fundraiser, administrator, anti-doping advocate, CBC Radio commentator, television sports panellist and a columnist for the Calgary Sun. She was named to three track and field Olympic teams and won more than 70 Canadian championships. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1978 and the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Her volunteer experience spans local and national charities and boards, and she currently works as director of fund development and communications with Distress Centre Calgary. 

David Sutherland (BComm '73)
In July 2007, David Sutherland retired as president and chief executive officer of the former IPSCO, Inc. after spending 30 years with the company. He is the chairman of the board of United States Steel Corporation, lead director of GATX Corporation, chairman of Graham Group Ltd., an employee-owned corporation, and a member of the Board of Directors of Imperial Oil Ltd. David is a former member of the U of S Board of Governors and was also the chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute and a member of the Board of Directors of the Steel Manufacturers Association, the International Iron and Steel Institute, the Canadian Steel Producers Association and the National Association of Manufacturers. He also has an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
