There’s no greater feeling than the rush of excitement I get when I walk up to Griffiths Stadium at PotashCorp Park, take my seat in the PAC, or cheer with the crowd in Rutherford Rink on game day. The feeling is palpable, and I know that many of you, as alumni and fans of Huskie athletics share this enthusiasm.

But what you may not know is that the commitment that our student athletes demonstrate in uniform is also evident each day off the court, field, track or rink. It’s this passion that makes Huskies an invaluable part of our campus, our city and any place where our athletes go on to make an impact in the world.

As many of you know first-hand, student athletes must learn to adapt to conflicting timelines, pressures and expectations. Academics, athletics and community activities are just three of their demands and time management becomes a valuable life skill that student athletes carry into their future careers as leaders in industry and community.

While your fan support is important to our athletes as they compete, your financial support through a charitable gift is what enables the success of current and next generation athletes and students. Your donation is critical to maintaining high quality athletic programs and to ensure student athletes are provided every opportunity to stay focused on their careers and athletic aspirations instead of worrying about financial pressures. Whether it’s a gift to a student award, a planned gift, or major gift or an annual gift, your donation allows our athletics program to continue building leaders.

There is no doubt that the last number of years has provided some of the greatest moments in our storied history. We have been witness to the resurgence and dominance of many of our teams and programs.  We recently produced a Men’s National Basketball Championship team and many individuals. We have also hosted and continue to play host to many Canada West and CIS National Championships.  With this greatness comes great responsibility, and it is because of this responsibility that I now come to you.

In order for us to continue to compete at the level that we currently enjoy, we must continue our pursuit of the top student-athletes not only here in the province and nationally, but internationally as well.  Once recruited these student-athletes look to us to provide not only the basics, but a world-class education and athletics program for which the University of Saskatchewan is renowned. With more than four hundred student-athletes, you can see our need to seek out potential donors.

It is through athletic support that our pursuit of excellence can continue and flourish. As our mission so clearly states, “Huskie Athletics will be the program of choice for students pursuing an elite level University student-athlete experience.”  With those goals I invite you to join us as a member of our athletic support group. It is with your participation and dedication to these student-athletes that our aspirations of building on tradition and creating a legacy that Huskie Athletics will continue to flourish.
