HUSKIES LAND TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have secured the 2013 & 2014 Men's Hockey University Cup and the 2015 CIS Men's Volleyball Championship.

"We are thrilled and excited that the CIS has selected the Huskies to host these two championships," said athletic director Basil Hughton. "Huskie Athletics has a strong tradition of hosting stellar championships with the student-athlete experience in mind. We always strive to be the best and be a leader in the CIS. It will be no different when we are planning and hosting these championships."

Men's volleyball was last hosted by the Huskies in 1980. The Huskies have appeared in the CIS Championship 17 times and are considered the most decorated of any Huskie team. With a crop of skilled young players, the Huskies look to be among the elite in the years of the championship. The championship will run February 27 to March 1 in 2015 and all games will be hosted at the PAC.

The Huskie men's hockey team has participated in nine of the last 12 University Cup championship tournaments. The team also played host to the tournament from 1999 to 2001. Saskatchewan won its first and only University Cup title in 1983. Men's hockey will run March 21-24, 2013 and March 20-23, 2014. All games will be played at the Credit Union Centre. The event proved a huge success in Saskatoon attracting the three highest single-tournament attendances in University Cup history with 37,121 spectators over seven games in 1998, 37,184 fans in 1999 and a single-year record of 40,956 in 2000.

"An ongoing partnership with Saskatchewan Volleyball, the Saskatoon Blades, the Western Hockey League, the City of Saskatoon and Credit Union Centre has allowed us to be successful in our quest to host these events," said Hughton. "We look forward to continuing these relationships and bringing championship calibre sport to the greater Saskatoon area."

The 2013 University Cup Championships will be held March 21-24 in the City of Saskatoon, with each game played at Credit Union Centre.

The 2014 University Cup Championships will be held March 20-23 in the City of Saskatoon, with each game played at Credit Union Centre.
